I see a hidden cost of leadership…
Written by Jim Vickers

Who can you really talk to?

Last week, a leader I work with called me.

Like… actually called.

➟ No Zoom

➟ No transcript

➟ Just a call

We didn’t have a session scheduled.

Had sensitive things to discuss:

➟ Board dynamics

➟ Executive tensions

➟ The next move

Said something, I won’t forget:

“You’re the only person I can talk to about this.”

We talked for over 2 hours.

I might’ve offered 10 minutes of total input.

But mostly? I just listened.

A few days later, I received this text:

“It was so helpful to talk with you.”

That was it:

➟ No frameworks

➟ No strategy sessions

➟ No next steps

It reminded me of the value of having a Confidant:

Someone who knows how to listen…

Someone who knows when to step in…

It’s one of the biggest privileges in my work.

Have you felt the power of great listening?
